Laboratory of Anesthesiology

The Laboratory of Anesthesiology (LIM/08) develops research projects with small and medium-sized animals, all supported by funding agencies (CNPQ or FAPESP), in the following lines of research:

Volume and blood component replacement and assessment of cardiovascular responsiveness to fluids and vasoactive drugs; Study of pain perception and techniques, analgesic and anesthetic drugs;

Impact of surgical anesthetic trauma on the respiratory system; Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of anesthetics and adjuvant drugs used in the perioperative period. To carry out these experimental studies, the laboratory has modern anesthesia and hemodynamic monitoring equipment for medium-sized animals, as well as equipment for behavioral studies of pain perception and cognitive function in rodents.

The laboratory has an area of 55 m². In 2018, a physical restructuring allowed the creation of an area for behavioral analysis of small animals, increasing research related to the study of pain, postoperative neurobehavioral changes and outcome after experimental heart surgery. The laboratory is part of the infrastructure of the Graduate Program in Anesthesiology, Surgical Sciences and Perioperative Medicine and has improvements for experimental clinical research, such as operating rooms and intensive care beds.
